This one-year pediatric technician certificate course, aims to equip students with the relevant professional knowledge, skills and techniques to enable them to apply their expertise for efficient health services delivery.

Course Objectives

At the end of the training the students should be able to exhibit the following general and specific competencies:

• Demonstrate understanding of basic science related to the technology and integrate this knowledge into practice.

• Describe and become familiar with the key roles and responsibilities of a pediatric technician.

• Understand the delivery of care to healthy newborns.

• Perform newborn assessments through history, physical examination, and routine screening procedures.

• Outline the delivery of care for sick infants in the Well Baby Nursery.

• List issues concerning infant nutrition, including breastfeeding and formula feeding.

• Recognize the importance of communicating with parents; apply strategies to convey information, provide support, and offer counseling.

• Compare normal and delayed growth and development across different childhood age groups.
